Some Straight Talk Concerning This Eclipse and Tours
Patty and Carol at Montrose Travel
have many years experience putting together successful tours. This is why we chose
them. Our direct contact with the tour operators in Africa is African Travel.
They have been doing African Tours for ~40 years. We have a very experienced team
making the arrangements for this tour.
There is one aspect of this particular
eclipse that makes it more difficult to plan a tour. That is, this region of Africa
is not set up to handle thousands of tourists. What does this mean to you?
Some of the tours being offered don't have confirmed space (hotels, etc). They are
hoping the space will be available when their tours fill up. We have
comfirmed space. Our tour will be limited to about 35 people.
We have seen prices for a tour similar to
ours advertised at a lower cost. You should be aware that costs in Africa have gone
up as they have realized that a lot of people would like to see this eclipse. We
have obtained the best costs with the best accomodations that we could find. So if
you go with a tour that advertises lower costs will it cost you less? Only if they
have completely paid for the tour in advance (very unlikely). There is always a
footnote in the terms and conditions that allows them to raise prices if their costs
increase. We believe that our prices are realistic and very competitive.
We have learned from African Travel that
Kruger National Park has suffered massive rains in March. These rains have destroyed
all the lodgings within the park. As we don't know whether these will be rebuilt or
not prior to the eclipse, we have booked lodging just outside the park.
